That story about the VP—that’s the thing I can’t stop thinking about. A guy who was good at his job, who had actual skills, and when the system didn’t need those skills anymore, he had nothing left to stand on. That’s not a character flaw. That’s what happens when your identity got built on a foundation that was never meant to hold weight.

“Rest as foundation rather than reward”—that’s sharper than how I said it. Most people won’t see that inversion until every other option has collapsed.
